Use of artificial intelligence

We use artificial intelligence for a range of purposes and welcome its wider use. AI helps us work better and faster – always in the interest of our customers and our products. Five principles apply.

    We use AI for a range of purposes and welcome its wider use. AI helps us work better and faster – always in the interest of our customers and our products.

  2. In a supporting role only

    In editorial work, AI tools are used in a supporting role only. They do not replace core journalistic skills such as finding topics, checking, placing in context, researching, assessing and verifying.

  3. Under human supervision

    We use AI only under human supervision. The final decision about using AI-based products is made by a person. We respect human autonomy and the primacy of human decisions.

  4. Lawful and secure

    We use only lawful AI that complies with applicable law and statutory provisions. We use AI that is technically robust and secure, in order to minimise the risk of errors and misuse.

  5. Curiosity and documentation

    We encourage all staff to engage openly and curiously with the possibilities of AI, to test tools and to suggest uses within our workflows. What matters is transparency, openness, ethical handling and documentation.
